Be Careful of Teeth Whitening by Beauty Salons

Be Careful of Teeth Whitening by Beauty Salons

Teeth whitening has become a popular cosmetic treatment and with the increase of celebrities with perfect smiles we all feel compelled to sport the same gleaming pearly whites. With the increase in demand for teeth whitening procedures there has also been an increase of places that offer this service. Teeth whitening by beauty salons has become very popular and teeth whitening by beauty salons is being advertised as less expensive and more effective than a visit to the dentist’s.

Be Wary of False Advertising

Many advertisements for teeth whitening by beauty salons claim that the procedure is more effective than a trip to the dentist’s and that it is cheaper. The latter may be true but the former is only achieved through higher concentrations of bleaching chemicals, which is harmful. If your dentist has told you that you cannot whiten your teeth to the same dazzling white as your favorite red carpet celebrity then there is probably a good reason why. Too much bleaching chemicals can be harmful for your teeth, mouth, esophagus and even stomach.

Teeth whitening procedures by beauty salons often use a higher concentration of chemicals than a dentist would. Although this may have the effect of whitening your teeth it may not be safe. Prolonged exposure to the chemicals used in teeth whitening procedures by beauty salons even at a concentration of 3% can cause irritation to your mouth and gums.

See a Professional

The bottom line is that your best bet is to see a professional dentist. Although teeth whitening by beauty salons may give you the results that you want you run the risk of damaging your teeth. You could also have even worse problems if you accidentally ingest the chemicals.

Beauty salon staff are not trained like dentists and although they may have had some training they will not have the same experience and training as a dentist. It is always more advisable to pay more money to see a qualified dentist than to end up in the doctor’s office with a burn from exposure to chemicals.

Remember that the dazzling smiles you see in magazines and on television are not a hundred percent real. Models have help of digital enhancement to make their smiles look brighter while many celebrities have porcelain veneers to achieve those perfect smiles. Healthy teeth will yellow as they age, unfortunately it’s inevitable, so don’t go all out with the bleaching.
